AKITA RESCUE ALBUQEURQUE and NEW MEXICO

Our Akita rescues come from different sources.  We usually know very little about the dogs, which can be a challenge in finding the right home for the right dog.  We often act in the role of "broker" due to our limited capacity to keep dogs for extended periods.  All rescues are evaluated as to basic temperament and overall health but these evaluations are often cursory due to time restraints and access to the dog.

We maintain an Akita Rescue Interest List to inform those wanting a rescue Akita about dogs that become available.  If you would like to be added to this list, please contact NM Akita Rescue Group at 505-400-9870 or akita2s@comcast.net

Our members are primarily located in Albuquerque but we provide Akita rescue in Albuquerque and all of New Mexico.

If you are interested in adopting a NM Akita rescue please note:

All dogs are neutered or spayed before placement
All dogs receive veterinary care prior to placement
Shots are up-to-date and identified medical conditions are treated
A secure yard is required
If you have other animals it may be difficult to find a rescue Akita that can live with your animal family since Akitas are a large, sometimes animal aggressive breed
If you have young (pre-school) children it may be difficult to find a rescue Akita for you since  children can be very hard on pets  and some Akitas are not familiar with living with children.
Most rescue Akitas are adults although we have had Akitas under a year old for placement from time to time
NM Akita Rescue Group requires a written, filed adoption application before serious consideration is given to the home
All adult family members will be contacted and interviewed to insure all family members are in accord regarding the adoption
A home visit will be conducted by NM Akita Rescue Group to insure the home and yard are suitable for an Akita--repairs or      improvements may be required prior to placement of a rescue Akita
NM Akita Rescue Group requires an adoption fee for each Akita placed

New Mexico Akita Rescue Group insists our orphans go to quality, loving homes.  Our orphans have often endured neglect/abuse/abandonment yet show uncompormising love, acceptance and delight in having a new forever family.  It is our responsibility to insure that NM Akita Rescue Group has fulfilled our promise to the Akita.  We promise our Akitas a loving, caring home when we place them, so please be understanding when we ask a lot of questions and sometimes seem to be intrusive.  Please understand we do this on behalf of the rescue Akita needing a home.
